WOMEN ARE POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS

is a community art exhibition inspired by the life, writing, political vision, and emotional world of Audre Lorde.

Call for Artists

Grounded in Lorde’s self-definition as “Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,”

the exhibition invites artists working across

sculpture,

photography,

painting,

installation,

film,

sound,

textile,

performance,

and social practice

to create or submit works engaging themes of liberation, intimacy, care, sensuality, survival, collective power, and Black feminist imagination.

Audre Lorde taught us that poetry is not a luxury. That silence will not protect us. That survival is deeply connected to community, and that care, truth-telling, vulnerability, and imagination are transformative acts.

WOMEN ARE POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS gathers artists and community members in the spirit of that vision — creating space for work that is emotionally honest, socially engaged, intimate, defiant, tender, collective, and alive.

Send a brief note of intent along with a short bio and links to images of the proposed art work to numahouse@icloud.com by October 1, 2026.

Selected Artists will be notified by November 1, 2026.
